To Do List
Simulations in order of priority:
- Higher resolution around planet (do I need to adjust the buffer in the problem module?)
- Increase density and decrease temp (for constant pressure) in center of planet - Does not do much
- Raise ambient temperature to planet temperature - No more pressure protections (immediately, anyway)
Movies:
- Smallest non-pressure protecting simulation - rho with magnetic field, beta with magnetic field
JC - Another option is to increase the transition radius for the magnetic field from r_p/2 to closer to r_p. This will take a little calculus to make sure it is done correctly… see https://astrobear.pas.rochester.edu/trac/blog/johannjc06302015 for the equations currently implemented in the problem module. In terms of increasing the resolution - you may be able to just add additional levels of AMR - would need to see plots of the mesh (sliced through the midplane) with density overlayed to see how it is currently refined.
I believe just increasing the resolution should be ok - higher resolution is forced out to about 4Rp, and it doesn't seem to want to resolve a ton outside of that, so shouldn't increase computational time more than necessary. Here's a slice near the midplane, zoomed in a bit:
