Current summary of results:
Up to this point we have focused on changing the following parameters(within the ranges stated) for a jet traveling in a stratified and toroidal ambient medium:

  • Velocity of the jet (100 – 500 km/s)
  • Temperature of the jet (10 – 10,000 K)
  • Torus alpha (.3 - .9)
  • Torus beta (.2 - .8)
  • Ambient density (400 – 1,000 cm-3)
  • Ambient temperature (1 – 100 K)

We have also tested a jet in a constant ambient density, with a decreased ambient density and a clump in a normal stratified and toroidal ambient.

What works: Through these runs we have found that the most significant changes occur when the velocity and temperature of the jet are changed. Moderate changes are made by changing the ambient density. The shape of the ablation flow is most significantly affected by an increase in jet temperature. We see a widening of the central region that at higher speeds becomes more cylindrical, while a jet with a temperature of 10K seems to converge more to a point at the head of the jet.

What works a little: Changes in the ambient density seems to affect some of the inner shape as well as affecting the instabilities.

What doesn’t work: Changes in torus alpha and beta only slightly change the bottom of the lobe (seeming to move it “up”) but do not change the shape of the lobe and changes in ambient temperature do practically nothing in changing the shape, density, or temperature distribution of the lobe.

  • Please note that the layout has been changed.
  • Relevant older models have been updated with the next color bars and ranges.
  • The new models are being added and examined for significant differences when compared to existing models.
  • The layout of the wiki is currently being changed.
  • All images and movies are being updated.

9/27

  • Thermal/ Ram Pressure plots have been updated again to have a clearer color bar.
  • Two models with a jet temperature of 10,000K have been added for jet speeds of 200 and 300 km/s.
  • A clump table has been added below the jet table and includes plots for a clump speeds of 100, 200 and 300 km/s.
  • The addition of all updated plots will be finished sometime next Monday.

9/24

  • All Density/ Temperature models have been replaced. Thermal/ Ram Pressure images have been replaced and the movies are being finished. All of these updates will be completed by tomorrow morning.

9/23

  • All models are being replaced with clearer images and movies. This will take a day or two.

9/20

  • The v = 100 km/s, 200km/s, 300km/s runs have been replaced with images and movies that show Density & Temperature and Thermal & Ram Pressures. I have also included a image with all three velocity plots next to each other and a Thermal & Ram Pressure plot that is divided by the local density. The rest of the runs will be replaced next week.
  • I am slowly replacing all Density and Thermal Pressure plots with Density/ Temperature and Thermal/ Ram Pressure plots.

9/19

  • All of the old images and movies have been replaced.

9/18

  • New images and movies are being added as the updated runs are completed.

9/09

  • Thermal pressure images and movies are currently being updated.
  • All of the density movies and images were updated to show the density in particles/cc.
  • The layout was changed today in order to make the page more readable.

9/06

  • In order to keep the images and movies consistent with those on Ruka's PN Page I am converting all runs into cgs. This will take a little time.

9/04

  • Please note that the structure of the table has been changed.

9/03

  • Images and movies have been added for a jet with a velocity of 300 km/s.

9/02

  • A velocity vector plot has been made for the run with a jet with a velocity of 100 km/s. The vectors do not appear symmetric about the x=0 axis. An image can be found here. I am currently trying to find a reason for this lack of symmetry.
  • Images have been added for the jet with a velocity of 200 km/s of the thermal pressure and for a jet with a velocity of 300 km/s of density and thermal pressure. Movie for each of these are currently being created.

8/30

  • Zoomed-in images for the first jet, as well as a density movie for a jet with a speed of 200 km/s have been added. A thermal movie for the new jet will be posted next week.
  • Added a new run for a jet with a velocity of 200 km/s. All other parameters remain unchanged.
